Hey guys, welcome to my digital economy blog😁. I know you don't know me yet as this is my first post here but hopefully, by the end of this year you and I will know each other just as well as we know the subject of the digital economy😉.
Just to introduce myself my name is Louis Humphries I'm from a seaside town in the south of Cork named Cobh (seen in the pic). My hobbies include playing football, basketball and socializing with my friends. I've been studying Business at the South Eastern Technological University since 2020 and I hope to be graduating in 2024.
As a business student, I was required to complete a "flexible semester" in the second semester of our third year. Rather than choosing to do work placement (which the majority of people choose😒), I decided to do a study semester abroad in Utrecht in the Netherlands.I don't want to rush into the complex nature of the digital economy just yet, so why don't we start off with something we all experience every day. Information Systems!!!!!!!
While I obviously didn't encounter many workplace information systems, I used many other information systems in daily life while studying abroad. Class projects, group forums and assignments were uploaded through Canvas, a learning management system (LMS). Meetings for group projects and occasional lectures online were conducted using Microsoft Teams. When registering for college, accessing results and applying for repeat examinations a student portal "Osiris" was used to do these activities and a number of others. A number of Colleges around Europe use this Student information system for Erasmus students to avail of.
Outside of University, an information system I used daily was an app named "9292" which gave live updates on any form of Dutch public transport at any time. Along with this in order to pay bills in the Netherlands you were required to set up a Dutch bank account and pay through said bank's banking app which uses electronic payment systems.
Thanks again for reading Guys, I hope you come back next week for another fun, fact-filled edition of Louis' Digital Economists😀.
